Worldwidee-CommerceissettogrowwellbeyondUS$2tnthisyeardrivenbyhighdouble-digitgrowthinChinaandtherestofAsiaandcontinuedstronggrowthinNorthAmericaandEurope,generatinganotherhighriseinconsumerparcelvolumes,ordingtorecentfiguresfromthemerceEuropeassociation.
Globale-Commercegrewby23.6%toUS$1.6tnin2013,theassociation’slatestGlobalB2CmerceReportshowed.Worldwideonlinesaleswereexpectedtogrowby22.9%toUS$1.9tnlastyear.
AsiaPacificovertookEuropeandNorthAmericain2013toetheworld’slargeste-Commerceregion,andlookssettoextenditsleadthisyear,theresearchfortheassociationofEuropeane-retailersfound.B2Ce-CommercesalesintheAsiaPacificregionsurgedby44.5%in2013,drivenbythestronggrowthofonlineshoppinginChina.B2CmercesalesinEuropegrewby17.1%whileNorthAmericaincreasedby10.1%thatyear,ordingtotheglobalreport.LatinAmericane-Commercesalesgrewby21.5%whiletheMiddleEastandNorthAfricaregiongrewevenmorestronglyby32.7%.
WithtotalB2Ce-CommercesalesofUS$419bnin2013,theUSwasstillthebiggestindividualmarket,buttheemergenceofChinaissignificant.Partlyduetotheessofe-CommercegiantAlibaba,ChineseB2Ce-Commercegrewby78.5%toUS$328.4bn.For2014,ChinawasevenforecasttosurpasstheUSandetheworld’snewleaderintermsofe-Commerce,merceEuropesaid.Theassociationpointedoutthatthecountrywiththesecondlargeste-Commerceturnoverandgrowthrate,Chinaisnotrankedintenofcountriesintermsofaveragespendingpere-shopper.

UPSANNOUNCESEXPECTED4QRESULTS
UPSannouncedthatitanticipatesfourth-quarter2014adjusteddilutedearningspershareofapproximatelyUS$1.25.Full-year2014adjusteddilutedearningspershareisexpectedtobeUS$4.75,up3.9%over2013adjusteddilutedearningspershareofUS$4.57.OnaGAAPbasis,fullyear2014dilutedearningsareexpectedtobeapproximatelyUS$3.28pershare,paredtoUS$4.61in2013.
Companyearningsfor2014werelowerthanpreviousguidance,primarilyduetotheunderperformanceoftheUSDomesticsegment.Less-than-expecteddemandonnonpeakdaysresultedinaworkduringpeakseason;panyseemstohavemiscalculatedandoverinvestedasvolumesfailedtogrowasstronglyasforecast.Adeclineinproductivity,increasedcontractcarrierrates,aswellascostsassociatedwithovertimeandtraininghourscontributedtotheexcesscost.Internationaladjustedoperatingprofitwasalsobelowexpectations,primarilyduetonon-recurringchargesandnegativeparisons.
UPSexpectssolidbusinessgrowthacrossallsegmentsin2015.IncreasedpensionexpenseofapproximatelyUS$180mduetolowerdiscountrates,andcurrencyheadwindsofmorethanUS$50mwillnegativelyimpactresults.panyanticipates2015dilutedearningspersharegrowthtobeslightlylessthanitslong-termtargetof9%to13%.
Duetolowerearnings,UPSsharesslumpedmorethan10%duringtradingonFridayaftertheannouncement,andclosedthedaydown9.91%.NervousinvestorsalsomovedoutofFedExshares,sendingthepricedownby2.97%.

SingaporePosthasannouncedthatitacquireda90%stakeinNewZealand-basedfreightpanyFamousPacificShippingLimited(FPSNZ)throughitssubsidiaryFamousHoldingsPteLtdtostrengthenitsregionallogisticsbusiness.
FamousHoldingsPteLtdhaspaidaninitialconsiderationofNZD3.6m(€2.4m)forthestake(subjecttoworkingcapitaladjustments)andcertaindebtsowingbyFPSNZtothevendors.Establishedin1996,FPSNZmainlyfocusesonseaandairfreightforwardingtogetherwithcustomsclearanceforinboundandoutboundshipmentsfromNewZealand.
Overthepast18months,SingPosthasbeenrampingupitsregionallogisticscapabilitieswithneworexpandedfacilitiesincludingthedevelopmentofanSG$182mfullyintegratedregionale-CommercelogisticshubinSingaporewhichisexpectedtostartoperatinginmid-2016.Aspartofitstransformation,SingPosthasbeensteadilyexpandingbeyondSingapore,leveragingitsregionalplatformQuantiumSolutionsandothersubsidiariesandpartners.

RussianPostandChinaPosthavestartedrailtransportationofinternationalpostalshipmentsfromChinatoRussiatosimplifycross-borderflowsbetweenthetwocountries.
Untilnow,internationalshipmentshavebeendeliveredtoRussiaonlybyairandbyroad.Incontrast,railtransportationnotonlymakesitpossibletoreducetransportationcostsbutalsotoexcludeadditionalcargooperationsandintermediariesfromthesupplychain.

UKE-RETAILDELIVERYVOLUMESPOSTDOUBLEDIGITANNUALANDCHRISTMASGROWTHIN2014
E-retaildeliveryvolumesintheUKpostedyear-on-yeargrowthof16%in2014and11.6%growthinDecember,inlinewithforecasts,withanewrecordintotalparcelvolumesdispatchedthroughUKcarrierslastyear,ordingtotheBritishe-CommerceassociationIMRG.
TheIMRGMetaPackUKDeliveryIndex,whichmeasuresparcelvolumesgeneratedbye-Commerce,estimatedtheoveralle-retailparcelvolumesat920mforthewholeyear2014,whichevenbeatsthe900mordersforecast.Boostedbythepre-Christmasperiod,parcelvolumesinDecember2014showedspectacular28%paredtothepreviousmonth.
Asforparcelcarriers,someofthempostedvolumesinlinewiththemarketgrowthof11.6%inDecember2014whileothersfailedtoreachthatlevel.HermesandYodel,forexample,increasedtheirpeakseasonvolumesby15%and11%respectivelywhileUKMailhasreported“recordvolumes”.RoyalMail,howeverpostedparcelvolumegrowthof‘only’4%intheUKlastmonth.

UKSMEE-RETAILERSTARGETGROWTHTHROUGHONLINEMARKETPLACES,ROYALMAILSAYS
Britishsmallandmedium-sized(SME)onlineretailersarelookingoptimisticallyat2015andplantoincreasetheiruseofonlinemarketplaces,suchaseBayandAmazon,toboosttheirgrowth,ordingtoRoyalMail’sannualtrackerstudyintotheexpectationsandchallengesfacinge-retailers.
Thesurveyresultsrevealedthatthesectorisinapositivemoodforthisyearassevenintenbusinessesexpecttheirsalestoincrease.Eventhough76%oftheSMEonlineretailershighlightpetitionthanayearago,theyaremoreoptimisticintermsoftheirgrowthexpectationsthisyear,withayear-on-yearincreaseof9%.Abouttwothirdsoftherespondentsnamedtheincreasingnumberofwebsitesasthemainreasonforpetition,aheadofpricesensitivity(42%),whichrankedfirstlastyear.
On-timedeliveryemergedasthemostimportantfactorfordrivingcustomersatisfactionquotedby62%oftherespondents,followedbyproductpricerankedsecond(52%)andproductqualityrankedthirdwith44%,downfrom66%lastyear,asthesurveyshowed.WhatisalsoingincreasinglyimportanttoUKSMEonlineretailersisprovidingagoodreturnsprocessforonlineshoppers,thestudyfound.Athirdoftheretailerssurveyedsaidasimplereturnsprocesswasakeyfactortocustomersatisfactionlastyear,upfrom23%in2013.Threeinten(27%)ofUKSMEonlineretailerswillbesimplifyingthereturnsprocessin2015toincreasecustomersatisfaction,upfrom11%lastyear.
