2 CLIMATECHANGEFACTS Climatechange,orglobalwarming,iscausedmainlybyburningfossilfuels(coal,oil,gasoline,andnaturalgas).Thiscreatescarbondioxide(CO2),agasthatstoresheat.CO2andothergasesthatstoreheatarecalled“greenhousegases.” Naturalgreenhousegasesarenecessaryforlifeonearth.Withoutthem,wecouldnotlivebecausetheearthwouldbetoocold.Toomuchofthem,however,andglobaltemperaturesrise,theclimateisdestabilized,andourhealthandthehealthoftheglobalecosystemisindanger.
